An alternative to the QWERTY arrangement, which was designed in 1873 to slow users and allow the mechanical key levers on typewriters time to fall to keep them from jamming. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) X4.22 Dvorak keyboard configuration paves the way for faster typing. These labels show both the black Dvorak legend (in the upper-left corner) and the red QWERTY legend (smaller and in the lower right) allowing use by both types of typists. Also included with the kit are options for various brackets and symbols whose placement vary depending on the conversion software.
